Last Friday, February 14th was the busiest we've been on Valentine's night. The interesting part was that I didn't even run any type of advertising. It was busy and we had the most success with all reservations throughout the night. There was no room for error given that we had back to back reservations all night. What we did different this year was to request a hod on credit cards for cancellations because the two years prior to this 2020, we would fill up Cueva Bar Cafe with reservations but then 50% of them would cancel an hour, or 1/2 hour before the time. By then we would have already turned down many more people who had called for a reservation. Lesson learned, and so we applied this new method this year and it worked perfectly! There was this couple who came around 8PM and after verbally expressing their happiness to Josette with the food they ordered I went to say hi and check on them when they were lounging after dessert. When I asked the guy how was his experience he said: "everything was so delicious bro, you don't even know!" I giggled quietly inside my brain thinking to myself, I do know. I didn't clarify who I was even though I had introduced myself earlier when I made myself available to them in case they needed more food or drinks, but hey, is never about us at Cueva Bar Cafe, is always about you, our guest. In a way, I feel very happy for all the couples who visited us last Friday because they all looked very pleased and into each other, yet in selfish way, I hope I still see them coming by for more tapas, small plates, tacos, pizzas or our specials 9 months later.

Let food bring us together!
Cueva Bar Café is my approach to the concept of Tapas with an essence of Mexican cuisine, known for continuous reinvention and embracing evolution, where food is prepared in a cosy, relaxed and inclusive atmosphere.
Letting the inspiration flow and keeping balance in mind, I marry Mexico’s ingredients and flavours with elements from around the U.S and the world using local - organic produce and vendors as much as possible to create both delicious and healthy dishes that have little to zero impact on our environment.
Cueva Bar in San Diego California offers a tapas and small plates inspired menu with plenty of omnivores, gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options.
